| Cluster management is an important factor in modern switches, and the variety of switches that the cluster management system can deal with is also an important factor. In this paper, a new cluster management system is described by proposing a new protocol, with this protocol layer 2 and layer 3 switches can be managed in a cluster system seamlessly. This new cluster management system is based on cluster system of layer 2 switches, and by giving different switches with different roles and by using the concept of area sub-division, this new cluster management system can manage L2 and L3 switches, and at the same time, the resource usage of the cluster management server is very low.The evolution of cluster management is introduced firstly. On the basis of the study on characteristics of the cluster management systems that are being used, we put forward a new cluster management system. After studying the way that switches receiving and transmitting a packet, the data flow of the new system is described and the format of packet that this new system using is defined. The working flow of logon module and connection module are described in details on the basis of defining the role of clients and server, and then the core data structure of the system is analyzed in details. At last the scheme of cluster management is introduced. The feasibility of the scheme is improved by implementing the new protocol. The result of the implementation show that this scheme can manage the network containing L2 and L3 switches, and also shows that the new management scheme has little impact on the system performance. The new scheme can manage different kinds of devices and it is easy to operate, and its user interface is friendly and it has little relation with the platform. |
