The Research And Implementation Of Advance Set-Top Box's Development Platform

Digital TV Set-Top-Box can be divided into two types, one just has the basic functions that can receive and decode digital TV signal; and the other is developed based on the former, which can have lots of functions besides these basic functions, such as internet surf, E-mail and so on. The former now have several development platforms including hardware and software, most STBs that we can see in the market are this type, but according to the development trend of technology, the later will be the mainstream in future, and more and more companies are concentrating on this type of STB.The aim of this project is to add some hardware and software to a basic STB, and construct a developing platform for an advanced STB, in order to benefit above application development based on this platform for further project.In this paper, a hardware platform with "SC2005+AT91RM9200+XC3S400" was provided. SC2005 is an STB integrative chip manufacture by LSI Logic, and this part is finished before the project start including hardware and software; AT91RM9200 is based on ARM920T core and XC3S400 is a FPGA, they are the main chips in this project, and are used to implement the advance functions in STB, also this part is described clearly in the paper.In the project, we build a hardware platform based on AT91RM9200 and XC3S400, finished the schematic design and PCB layout design, also the hardware debug is ok. After that, a bootload and embedded system operation was porting on the hardware successfully. At last, a complete platform for advanced STB development was made, and it can be used for further project. The experience of the experts and the author in debugging and testing the hardware and software are also concluded.
