| Medical record includes information that the patient provides concerning his or her symptoms and medical history, the results of examinations, reports of x rays and laboratory tests, diagnoses, and treatment plans.It is the media and executing gist of healthcare activities,it is also the information source of medical research and education.With the development of Hospital Information System,a transition from paper-based patients records to electronic patients records has taken place.Compared with paper-based patients records,EPR have many advantages.However,some problems exist on the application of EPR.One of the most important issues is the security of EPR.Confidentiality , integrity and non-repudiation are three basic requirements for the security of EPR. The security of EPR is based on laws, management and technology.Electronic signature is based on asymmetric cryptography method,it provides solutions for the security of EPR.The XPR system is a case of XML-based EPR system,this article discusses electronic signature and its application and implemention in this system.The conduction of electronic signature technology is based on PKI. At first we must establish a feasible PKI project.PKI provides and manages the certificates and keys needed for the system. This article establishs the methods about certificates and keys,such as certificates saving, certificates appling and logout.This article also discusses CA's organizing structures and application policies both at now and when the EPRs are shared between hospitals.In this system EPR is saved as XML documents.XML documents are structural documents,electronic signature for them has its special form.XML signature defines syntaxs and processing procedure of electronic signatures for XML documents, it's the form of electronic signature in XPR system.
