Design And Realization Of E-mail Capturing System Based On Linux

With prevalence of Internet and the continuously extending of the Government Networking Project, as well as the continuously improvement of Office Automation, E-mail has become a common tool in people's lives and work. How to prevent the spread of harmful E-mails and insure the office network's safety and efficiency has become an important subject for the departments of information security.In this paper, the author describes the theory and realization of an E-mail monitoring system based on Linux. The whole system can be divided into the foreground part and the background part. The background part is a program that captures E-mail packages, it is written in "C" language, and it runs under the monitoring server of Linux/Unix system. The purpose of this part is to capture the E-mail information in the network, initially handles them and then store them. The foreground part is composed of a group of PHP programs, it runs over the monitoring server or other servers. The purpose of the foreground part is to decode, unzip, query, and search the E-mail information that has been captured, and then get the useful information .This system provides the functions such as capturing E-mail, E-mail decoding and decipherment, key words index and so on. It can be used as a set of information security system, and some information security departments of the nation can use it to monitor some peculiar E-mails sent and received by some special people.
