This paper focuses on reducing the microstrip antenna's losses and raising its gain to increase its efficiency in dealing with the fact of its low efficiency.We analyze the physical mechanism of the conductive losses, dielectric losses and radiation losses in microstripline . Thus come to the conclusion that the conductive losses are the major reason caused the low efficiency of the microstrip antenna array; the secondary is the dielectric losses; and still less is the radiation losses.We summarize the good side and bad side of Photonic Crystal microstrip patch antennas and bring forward a new microstrip antenna. It is natural to say that the new antenna is worth using for easily fabrication and good qualities after compared with the general microstrip patch antennas and Photonic Crystal microstrip patch antennas.As we all known, the near-far field transform in time domain will consume too much computational time in the algorithm of FDTD, so we invent a new method to overcome this, that is, the field on the equivalent face is processed with Fourier Transform during the FDTD's time iteration, after that making the near-far field transform in the frequency domain to calculate the directivity pattern. The analysis of needing extra memory and computational time on the new algorithm show this new method has the merits of easily doing and taking little computational time.We give a new microstrip patches array and analyze it with FDTD.Last we point out a promising way to continue on this problem in future, which is to use mom (method of moment) with fast computation and optimization arithmetic to design the high efficiency antenna array.
