The International Motion Picture Experts Group(MPEG) formally brought forward the new MPEG-4 Standard in 1999. It plays important role in interactive multimedia application such as digital television, real-time video monitoring, mobile multimedia communication, video stream and visual game on Internet etc. This thesis illustrates the design of MPEG-4 video capturing and coding system based on ADI DSP (ADSP-BF533). It particularly introduces the hardware constitution and the software realization of the real-time video encoder and especially disscusses all kinds of techniques to optimize the MPEG-4 program according to the hardware configuration and compiling characteristics of ADSP-BF533.Chapter 1 provides an overview of the development of MPEG-4 encoder and gives the significance of the research work.Chapter 2 introduces the theory of video coding and compares some video compression standard.Chapter 3 is focused on the development, constitution, application and characteristic of MPEG-4 video compression technique.Chapter 4 discusses the design of video encoder hardware and the interface driver, including Blackfin processor, video input interface, stream output interface and the memory architecture.Chapter 5 presents the software design and optimization of video encoder.Chapter 6 gives the main research conclusion and the prospect of further research work.
