The integration technology of Global Positioning System (GPS) and Geographic Information System (GIS) has become one of the research trends of wetland study with the advantages of highly objectivity, veracity and efficiency. It can accurately obtain comprehensive data and conquer the absence of history literatures. Moreover it can offer science evidence for wetland protection and management. This paper focuses on the integration technology of GPS and GIS in wetland study, and the study is undertaken on Zhalong Wetland. Some important problems emerged in integration are discussed in detail including integration mode and method, wetland ecology GIS database establishment, coordinates transformation from global coordinates system of GPS data to subject GIS digital maps, GPS data collection and process method, display and route track of GPS orientation in subject digital maps. The establishment of wetland ecology GIS database is one of the basic works. This paper sets up the database objective by systematic analysis, and designs the general structure to establish database. Because of the limit of techniques, the traditional methods of transformation have the disadvantages of highly complexity, existence of model error and projection error and local character of parameters. The feed-forward neural network can realize nonlinear function approximation. This paper uses this character to design the three layers feed-forward neural network coordinates transformation model. The optimization learning rate is adjusted during the training process and the performance function is modified to improve generalization ability. The simulation results prove that the neural network with modified learning algorithm efficiently establishes the nonlinear transformation model and conquers the disadvantages of traditional methods. Moreover, the modified learning algorithm increases the network generation ability evidently. Furthermore, this paper makes research on GPS data collection and process as well as measure display etc. Dynamic data communicating and accessing, position data obtaining and processing, static data and spatial orientation displaying as well as route tracking is realized. Zhalong Wetland practice proves that integration of GPS and GIS realizes the spatial orientation and orients changed areas rapidly. The integration technology is feasible and meaningful in offering technology support to dynamic analysis and protection study of wetland.
