With the development of integrated optics, all kinds of optical wave-guide devices with different function have appeared. The function of wave-guide devices depend on the structure and refractive index distribution which bring a great of difficulty to the design of wave-guide devices. So it is very important to develop corresponding CAD software to design wave-guide devices. With CAD method we can not only overcome the difficulty but also analyze the characteristics of optical wave-guide and lead to a quick design. We have developed a CAD software with Vc++ which can be used to analyze the mode of quantum well semiconductor laser with the name LaserCAD. The algorithm adapts to wave-guide with any refractive index distribution and gives very accurate resolutions of the field modes.First, we simply introduced the optical wave-guide theory. Then based on the theory we deduced the theory of analyzing the quantum well laser with a step method in multi-layers.Then we developed CAD software LaserCAD and PZTCAD based on the theory we deduced and we programed with Visual C++ and Matlab on the basis of MatcomLaserCAD can be used to analyze the mode of quantum well semiconductor laser with gradually changed index distribution in wave-guide layer and PZTCAD helps to design PLZT wave-guide devices.The result showed that LaserCAD can give precise resolutions of the field distribution of single quantum well with any refractive index distribution. We are trying to make it more perfect.
