Publishing is one of the several traditional industries that are most suitable for networking, as one of the core contents of computer industry is digitalization of literature. The technology of digitalization has been widely used in processes of writing, editing, typesetting and printing long before the emerge of internet. The close connection between publishing and compute industries prioritizes development of network publishing.Network publishing means publishers with legal authorization publish and sell electronic books (eBooks) through internet. The business began with the development of Internet. It comprises many processes including manufacturing, uploading, selling, and information processing. Network publishing produces e-books, and makes sales and trades via networking. It hence makes literature searching easier, avoids extinction of book copies, helps cut down cost tremendously, publishes and sells books simultaneously, and enables more people to read the books. It is a redevelopment of traditional publishing industry, and is a genuine green industry.Network publishing represents development trends of hi-tech media and information industries, and has potential market. For example, along with the construction and application of e-book trade center and digital library, e-books will be in great need. According to statistics, a medium digital library will need around 60,000 to 80,000 e-books. This will bring great opportunities to the network publishing industry.Currently, publishing electronic medical books are mainly through: 1. authoritative science and technology websites; 2. big book-selling websites; 3. websites with own copyright; 4. emails. This research developed a website for the Second Military Medical University Press (http://cbs.smmu.edu.cn/). The website started working in September 2004.It realized electronic press, which is a blank area in development of network publishing. Meanwhile, the network publishing area in the website introduces knowledge of e-books, displays good e-books, and launches surveys on network publishing of medical books, all of which have demonstrated to be very successful.Network publishing of medical books need support from networking technologies and professional publishing software. Currently the main software are PDF files (developed by Adobe company), which is widely used in international network publishing of medical books, and CEB files (developed by Beida-Fangzheng Electronic Company), which is popular in domestic publishers. This paper compared these two software in many ways: safety, ability of customization, introduction time, popularity, and extent of support to Chinese character, to file formats, to re-development, to post-sale service, to layout keeping, to basic functions of the reader, to type-setting and table of contents, to bookmark, to size of files, to transformation of file format, and to size of installation software for free readers. In conclusion, the CEB files by Fangzheng Apabi have more technology priorities, and are more suitable for the press industries in China. This project hence selected CEB files in the research. The main problem in network publishing of medical books is to avoid piracy and infringe, as books are easy to be copied, modified after digitalization. Digital Rights Management (DRM) is a new technology. It protects content of eBook through two calculation methods: digital watermark and data-lock.The research analyzed Fangzheng Apabi eBook solution to demonstrate the application of anti-copy technology in eBook with data-lock as core technology. Based on the analysis, the research solved some basic problems in digital right protection of eBook, such as preventing piracy of eBook, i.e. blocking re-distribution of eBook by hardware-related information lock. The DRM protects benefits of authors, publishers, online bookstores, electronic libraries and readers. In addition, medical editing will inevitably face opportunities and challenges, as Chinese National News Press requires higher quality of eBooks along with the development of network publishing of medical books. The research also analyzed...
