Sentence p arsing is t he c ritical and difficult p oint i n n atural 1 anguage processing. The complex patterns of Chinese sentences and lacking of tags of sentences forms lead us to a dilemma. Each English sentence has a unique predicate head in a definite form while Chinese sentence has more flexible forms. A simple Chinese may comprise of only a word or a phrase, while longer sentence might be build up with a paragraph. In addition to this, Chinese has no explicit boundary between sentences, which make full parsing of sentences much exhaustible and resultless .According to the thought of shallow parsing, this paper imports a shallow s yntax description s ystem which b etween 1 inear w ord 1 ist and full parsing trees: chunk parsing.Steve Abney pioneered the chunk thought in 1991.Chunk parsing defines sentence parsing in two stages: chunker and attacher. The chunker converts a stream of words into a stream of chunks, and the attacher converts the stream of chunks into a stream of sentences.Chunk paring bears many virtues such as low complexity in phrase partition and it can avoid the disambiguity in phrase partition to some extend.Another important characteristic of chunk parsing is it can be used in many fields. Chunker theory takes a critical role in application in information extraction, name entity recognition and noun phrase recogniton. It is much more important that some researchers of language processing have built large- scaled corpus bank or devote themselves into finding the ways of building large corpus which could contribute to further research. The first step in chunk parsing is to recognize the predicate head of the sentence. After the step we would find out which is subject chunk and adverbial chunk before the predicate head and which is the object chunk and complement chunk after the predicate head. We put forward a new method to...
