Optimum recording material is always the key for volume hologram. It id widely believed that photopolymer is a potential recording material and great breakthrough will be made in it firstly because of it's optimum recording characterization. But in China, little attention has been focused on it, and there is no mature product. So studying on it is very necessary and significative. The materials researched in the thesis is self-produced by Technical Institute of Physics and Chemistry Chinese Academy of Sciences. Estimating system and detailed testing ways are established in the first chapter. Utilizing the system, several new materials have been tested and estimated in the system. The tested parameters are given in the third chapter The recording characteristics of a batch of materials that have different thickness are discussed. The Bragg-selectivity, sensitivity, volume shrinkage, dynamic range and scatter noise changed along with the variety of thickness. It is shown that the noise, volume shrinkage degraded and Bragg-selectivity angle, sensitivity, valid dynamic range increased with the decreasing of thickness. This tell us scatter noise will limit the material's thickness. Dark decay of a saturate grating is tested. The results demonstrate the diffraction efficiency curve half decreased in the first several hours and subsequently became smooth. The stability of the material requires improvement and fixing the recorded grating is need. A saturate grating and an unsaturated grating were uniformly illuminated. And the diffraction efficiency's variety curve with the increasing of exposure time is tested.
