With the popularation and in-depth application of networks, the network security is more and more important. The statistic shows there are 85% networks made by Ethernet technology, but the Ethernet chips we use rely on the foreign chip manufacturers. This causes the underlayers' security of networks not to be guaranteed. It is signality to develop a security Ethernet chip with intellectual property and build a safe and reliable system for network switch.This paper emphasizes on techniques of the design of security Ethernet Chip, which include two fields: one is the network security technique, the other is the chip design technique. Hardware software partitioning is one key problem of Hardware software co-design. This problem is a NP-complete optimization problem.The common algorithms are unable to solve it very well. Considering all the factors, we choose the Generic Algorithm(GA) to deal with this problem. This paper presents a GA-based settlement, and annealing algorithm and selecting the elder-individuals in the light of probability are introduced into the GA. Those two techniques ensure the algorithm's self-adaptablity and the result's global optimization. Furthermore, the efficiency is heightened markedly.To reduce the trouble of networks, the paper firstly studies of the Ethernet security protocol, and analyses the network model and Ethernet technique. We design a custom MAC protocol, and discuss the method of generating security CRC using linear feedback shift register, by the way analyze its performance. It is in common use that data encryption ensures networks security. The paper furthers its research on the Ethernet hardware encryption, and focuses on the study of the application of the IDEA algorithm in data link layer. Also the protocol of the secret keys'exchange based on the Diffie-Hellman algorithm is presented.Finally, the design and implementation of security Ethernet chip based on SOPC are described in detail, which ensures the higher security and better control of networks.
