Purpose:To coordinate and summary the experiences of Professor Li Xiaojuan in clinical diagnosis and treatment of painful diabetic neuropathy from collateral disease,and to explore its academic thoughts,treating methods and the commonly used herbs followed,which will provide new methods and ideas for the treatment of PDN.Material and method:To collect the typical cases through clinical studying from teacher and to consult relevant literature and data,then to analyze and coordinate all data collected in order to sum up the experiences of professor Li in the treatment of painful diabetic neuropathy.Results: 1.Professor Li Xiaojuan proposes that painful diabetic neuropathy and collateral disease are the same in course,clinical manifestations and pathological mechanism,and nerve and microvascular are similar to collateral and confirms the feasibility of using the theory of collateral disease to guide the treatment of PDN. 2.Professor Li believes that PDN is deficiency in origin and excess in superficiality.Deficiency syndrome include qi deficiency,yin deficiency,qi and yin deficiency,yang deficiency.Excess syndrome involve wet,phlegm,blood stasis,heat,cold coagulation.The key pathogenesis is deficiency in collateral and collateral blocked. 3.On treatment,Professor Li proposes that ensuring blood sugar in standard.”Smoothing collateral”as the general principle,on the basis of tonifying qi,nourishing yin,warming yang,removing dampness,clearing heat,removing blood stasis,eliminating phlegm,dispersing cold,adding plant products, rattan, worms product to smooth collateral.Conclusion:Professor Li has a unique way of using the theory of collateral disease to guide the treatment of PDN and gains remarkable effects,which is valuable and worthy to promote.
