A Study On The Image Of Liu Bo In The Han Dynasty

When we talk about the study of liu-po, we will find that the scholars often concen-trate on the study of the TLV pattern on the liu-po game-board, as a result of no supp-ort of the documents, there are many guesses in their studies. The topic of my study is about the image of liu-po in Han dynasty. The appearance of it was later than the TLV pattern, but it had been influenced by entertainment deeply, and there are many docu-ments we can use to study the image of liu-po.There are four chapters in my paper, in the first part, I talk about the define of liu-po, the form and distribution of the image of liu-po, and I also talk about the academic history and the study method of mine. In the first to third chapters, I talk about the de-velopment of liu-po and its image. Analyzing from the archaeology material, liu-po always as a material to be put in the tombs from the Warring States to the Western Han Dynasty. Influenced by the idea of putting liu-po in the tombs, the image of liu-po became popular, their later generations wanted the owners of the tombs happy in the yellow spring, and the appearance of the TLV mirrors maybe resulted from the entertainment. Until the later of the Western Han Dynasty, especial in Wang Mang’s time, due to the idea of promising to be immortal and the political demand of Wang Mang’, the belief of the Queen Mother of the West became more and more popular. At that time, as a holy, liu-po frequently be used in the worship of the Queen Mother of the West and this scene of worship usually appeared in the pictures of Han Dynas-ty.The image of liu-po in Eastern Han Dynasty follow the form which was used in the later of Western Han Dynasty. A part of images of liu-po appeared in the scene of par-ty, and it had always been used to entertain the owners of the tombs, and another usu-ally appeared in the worship of the Queen Mother of the West. After the middle of the Eastern Han Dynasty, immortals or the owners of the tombs become one of the mem-bers to play the liu-po game. This image is always used to entertainment the immor-tals, promise the owners of the tombs to be immortal and avoid evil spirits.The TLV mirrors is also one of my topic, the TLV pattern on the mirror, and the pr-oblem about the origin and the function of the four minerals and the epigraph about avoiding evil spirits and12two-hour periods on the mirrors that appeared in Wang Mang’time. My opinion is that the TLV pattern on the mirrors resulted from the patt-ern on the liu-po game-board, and we can not use the materials of the TLV mirrors in Wang Mang’time to talk about the problem about the origin and the function of the TLV pattern itself which had appeared in the Spring and Autumn Period.In Han Dynasty, liu-po game is very popular in people’daily life, and it also be us-ed to worship the Queen Mother of the West. Through the study, we can understand the daily entertainment, the way to worship the Queen Mother of the West and the ha-bitude of the burial in Han Dynasty deeply.
