‘Quotation Song’ and ‘model opera’ were deemed an important part of music and cultural life during the “Cultural Revolution ", so was the New Battlefield Songs, a selection of songs published from1971to1976. The New Battle Songs was a collection of songs to commemorate Mao Zedong "Speech". The songs took various forms, reflected the characteristics of the times, had different and rich styles and expressed people’s thinking and daily life at that time. There arise a large number of music works with artistic value. These songs were regarded as people’s emotional sustenance, and therefore constituted an critical part in people’s spare time cultural life during the “Cultural Revolution"."Cultural Revolution" songs witnessed the growth of a generation of Chinese. The songs with familiar melody carrying imprint of times have become unforgettable for those who experienced the "Cultural Revolution". These songs remind them of their plight at that time‐‐‐passionate or horrified, tearful or chilly. While some of the songs in the New Battlefield Song are still occasionally seen in people’s daily life, and some were regarded as “red classic", it is difficult to integrate them into the mainstream music culture in today’s society, and the younger generation seems quite indifferent toward them. However, the creative concept, aesthetical standards, language styles and melody of these "Cultural Revolution" songs have deep impact on the creation of mainstream songs since the "new era". In other words, from time to time lyrics styles of some of mainstream music works reveal lingering charm of the New Battlefield Song. The New Battlefield Song represents important music historical materials in Chinese modern music history. And these songs indirectly reflected political, cultural and social conditions of the “Cultural Revolution" period. Although some songs win universal praise even today and they also virtually reflected the spirit of the times. However, as "Cultural Revolution" was completely denied, these songs with ultra‐leftist political color should not be regarded as classics, even though they are repackaged and take on completely different appearance. The New Battlefield Song reflects the tremendous energy in specific historical conditions and social background after the art was reduced to a political tool, and generates tremendous ideological control and cultural destructive power. Combined with historical events and political change, and took the "Cultural Revolution" songs as the research background, this dissertation tries to objectively analyze the works in the New Battlefield Song in the aspects of theme, form and styles, hoping to tap into their artistic value, and make accurate and objective summary and evaluation on the history.
