Mao Zedong has founded his special philosophy of history which primarily reflectsmodern idea.This makes it possible to study Mao’s philosophy of history in the viewof modernity.Modernity is a concept comes from west but the question of modernityis universal from the perspective of social change occurred in all over theworld.Mao’s philosophy of history has been a system and any part of it embodiesmodern spirit.That is to say Mao’s historical philosophy is modern very much.Mao’s philosophy of history is connected with his concept of society which liveside by side because the concept of history presenting time firstly means the history ofman which practices in society and creates hisroty.In general,objective world andsubjective world constitute Mao’s historical philosophy.The relation between themcertainly is dialectic.The subjective part is to explain the problem of objectivefoundation and social formation which history progresses in.That are the materialmonism of historical devepment (movement of social basic contradiction) and socialformation of historical development(the question of historical period and the end ofhistory).Subjective part is to explain the problem that man existing in form of classhow to improve historical or social change.That means social movement of historicaldevelopment(classical revolution)and that people are the motive force in the makingof history(the view of peopoe).The concrete content of Mao’s historical philosophy isas follows:First,the fundamental dynamics of historical development is the movement ofsocial basic contradiction which is the objective basement of Mao’s historicalphilosophy.The movement of social basic contradiction is a dialectic structure inepistemology.This kind of dialectic structure moved by its inherent contradiction isalso objective and opposite to the theory of historical development determined byHeaven or God.Second,human’s historical development based on the movement of social basiccontradiction will undergo the change of five kinds of social historicalformation.There is a socialism society in China.From the perspective ofmodernity,social formation in history development implies progress and embodies theend of history.These both challenge and breakdown Chinese traditional theory ofhistory,such as the concept of historical circle and restoring ancient ways. Third,the course of history dominated by the movement of social basiccontradiction doesn’t mean that man is negative.As far as the change of socialnature,revolution refers to class revolution in nature.Class struggle is the primaryforce of social development and class revolution is the way to end history.Forth,the subject of social movement which one kind of it is class revolution ispeople.While the people get the position of subject and become the direct power ofhistory in Mao’s philosophy of history,the people are the object of enlightment andsocial mobilization.In the view of modernity,modern time consciousness is implied in Mao’s historicalphilosophy.Progress and ultimate aim have not been stripped off from his historicalphilosophy.The aim of Mao’s historical philosophy is future and the structure of it isobjective.So modern spirit is implied in Mao’s historical philosophy and modernity isthe spiritual nature of it.
