"Mongolian Secret History" War Description Art

As the first written literature work of Mongolian, The Secret History of Mongolia is a precious historical masterpiece of Mongolian as well as a classic of the ancient literature. In content, the description of the war is the mainline of this article. It reflects the historical events truthfully and portrays a series of wars by which Genghis Khan unified the Mongolian tribes with literary technics simultaneously. Based on the predecessors’ researches on The Secret History of Mongolia, this thesis explore the art of war description in this book comprehensively.The thesis is consist of four parts; introduction, main text (four chapters), conclusion and references. The introduction part outline the reasons, status, purposes, meanings and method of the subject. The main text is composed of four chapters. Chapter one briefly clarifies the description of several main wars, points out that the description is not only focused on the reasons of war or the depicting of the process, but also on the vivid portray of the plots; The second chapter analyzes the structural art of the war description. It expresses the expanded description about the reasons of the war, the artistic effects of the war process and the insert description about the other reasons of the war. Chapter three explains the features of the characters by depicting wars and finds out that it pay more attention on the demonstrating the characters draws than describing the scene of cruelty in the war. The last chapter expounds the artistic expression in The Secret History of Mongolia from three aspects, the ingenious use of the idioms, the describable reference based on Mongolia folklore literature and the combination of prose with rhyme. The conclusion part shows that the description of the war in The Secret History of Mongolia is not merely a historical narrative, mostly it’s an artistic form to create the vivid characters.
