Regional Stereotype refers to the general and fixed assessment on people of a certain region. In recent years, a number of psychological researchers conducted many empirical studies on theexistence and stability of regional stereotypes as long as the use of the methods of socialcognition. In this study, I used a variety of methods to study on the stereotype of nine-head-birdof Hubei in three aspects on the basis of previous studies. What is the stereotype ofnine-head-bird of Hubei and how it impact in-group and out-group members are what theresearch wants to explore. The study consists of three parts:In research1, a free-association test was mainly used to measure explicit Hubeinine-head-bird regional stereotypes. The results showed that Hubei nine-head-birds regionalstereotype existed and presented polarization characteristics.Study2respectively used the Implicit Association Test (IAT) and its variants (ST-IAT) tomeasure the implicit attitude to Hubei and the nine-head-bird. In experiment1, we use Hubei andthe non-Hubei as targets. The results showed that when we used Hubei and non-Hubei words asconcepts in IAT test, the subjects’ implicit stereotype of Hubei was positive, while we conductedST-IAT in experiment2which used the nine-head-bird as a target word, the result showed thatthe attitude to the nine-head-bird was negative. The last study explored the impact of stereotype threat on the One-Shot Prisoner’s Dilemmain internal and external groups. In experiment1we explored the impact of stereotype threat. Theresults showed that when the subjects of Hubei in the stereotype threat condition made morecompetitive policy decision and unrecognition of group, then non-Hubei subjects showed morecooperative. In experiment2we explored the impact of stereotype threat and feedback on theassessment of Hubei. We conducted two conditions (positive stereotype threat-defection andnegative stereotype threat-cooperation). The result showed that subjects’attitude changed as longas the feedback but not the stereotype threat type.
