Since1984the first novel "black butterfly, black butterfly......" was published, Liu Xinglonghas had nearly30years of writing career, and has achieved important status and influence in thecontemporary literature. In1992, Liu Xinglong was known to more people because of CountryTeachers, a novel reflecting the education of a small village and highlighting the glory of humangood nature. Subsequently, he created a series of novels to reflect the reality of life, such asAutumn wind drunk, Majestic-looking, Sharing difficult and gradually formed his own creativestyle, becoming an important writer of "Realism shock wave" and occupying a place in theliterary world. Entering the new century, he further broadens the horizons of concern, regardlessof review of history or thinking of reality, his novels: Heavenly gate, Skywalker, Political classand other works, become more profound and thick.Initially, Liu Xinglong asked the meaning of life simply and directly and showed a tendencyto moral in the early novels. Then he patiently shaped a series of "saint" type characters. Thesepeople were good at resolving difficulties by themselves and sticking to the traditional morality.Finally, the author was addicted to the narrative style: good for evil, love can do anything andmoral can achieve salvation. Liu Xinglong’s "saint complex" became more and more clearlyalong with the progress of the creation. This article from the view of "sage complex" to analyzeLiu Xinglong’s novel, helps people to understand the reason why someone praise Liu Xinglong’sworks but someone criticize them.This thesis is divided into five parts. Preface describes the origin of the thesis topic, thedefinition of "saint complex", and the historic development and the present research on this topic.The first part of the text combes and analyzes the development process of Liu Xinglong’s "saintcomplex" and features of the different stages of creation in the view of the development andchange of contemporary literature; The second part of the thesis text refines the writer’s attitudein writing in the specific text, and summarizes the "saint complex" characteristics on thecharacters and the structure of the layout and the atmosphere of the novels; The third part of thetext attempts to analyze the causes of Liu Xinglong’s "saint complex", explores the influence ofchildhood experience,diverse and distant culture and social reality of the transition period onwriters’ writing. The conclusion affirms Liu Xinglong’s value on ethical idealism and lastingconcerning on society, while points out the shortcomings and thinking in the literature.
