The Influence Of Emotion On Moral Judgment

As an important part of morality, moral judgment is indispensable in the moraleducation work, especially under the social background of emerging moral problemsin the primary and secondary school, It’s very necessary to empirically research moraljudgment under the perspective of psychology and cognitive neuroscience. Previousresearches mainly focus on the right and wrong judgment of morality from theperspective of cognition. Right and wrong judgment of morality, can also be describedas moral valance judgment, in other word, judgment on whether certain behavior is inline with the inner moral standards and social moral values. With the deepening of theresearch in recent years, researchers gradually realize the role of emotion in moraljudgment. On the basis of previous research, this paper takes the emotionalperspective to study the moral judgment, also study the moral type judgment. Moraltype judgment, that is, judgment on which basic moral types certain behavior belongsto.Moral is a universal phenomenon of human society, researchers have alreadystudied the universal moral types, but the relative lack of research on the moral typejudgment. Limited to studies on specific moral type while lack of systemic researchon a theoretical framework. And five types of basic morals was applied in moral typejudgment, which was based on professor Haidt’s theory theoretical framework ofhuman moral five benchmark (care/damage, fair/unfair, in-group loyalty/no loyalty,respect/no respect for authority, pure/impurity).Hence, this essay mainly discusses the influence of different emotional valence onmoral valance judgment with experimental method and word stimulus material,Specifically mainly discusses：1.The subthreshold prime of three emotional valence(negative, neutral and positive emotions) on vocabulary judgment moral valance byemploying the method of experimental behavior；2.Threshold prime of threeemotional valence (negative, neutral and positive emotions) on vocabulary judgmentmoral valance with the method of ERP technology;3.Threshold prime of threeemotional valence (negative, neutral and positive emotions) on five types of basicmoral judgment, by employing the method of behavioral experiment. Through empirical research, the main conclusions are as follows:1. human’s moralvalance judgment might be not affected by subliminal prime of emotional under thesubthreshold prime condition, might because the undergraduate participants whichinfluenced by social and cultural background, hence can automate processing the rightand wrong judgment of moral;2. respond differentiation is more likely to be stirredwhen inconsistent between moral valance and emotion valance than consistentbetween moral valance and emotion valance under the condition of threshold prime,This effect is embodied on the N300;3. the judgment of moral types significantlyinfluenced by emotional prime under the condition of threshold prime, the main effectof emotion valance and moral types were significantly difference, and the interactioneffect between moral types and emotional valance was significantly difference aswell.
