Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood was a very important school in the middle of1800s in England.Although the whole school wasn’t lasting for quite a long time,it still brought a fresh new air to the conservative England painting which was dominated by the England royal academy. At first,it was organized by three of the royal academy students,Hunt,Millais and Rossetti, then more artists followed them. You can feel the principle from the name of the Brotherhood, they wanted art to go back to the pure condition of the early Renaissance, because they believed that after Rephael, most of the artists hadn’t the thought of innovation, they just followed the model of Repheal as the best painting in art circle. When there was an occasionally chance that the members of the Brotherhood saw the fresco of the early Renaissance and the middle ages, they were hugely shocked by them, they made up their mind to follow them. The Pre-Raphaelite absorbed themes, skills and color from the paintings of middle ages. They put naturalism in they works, they painted things honestly no matter figure paintings or landscape paintings, but they made some revolutions, they definitely not only copied. Most of their works were about the religion, you can feel the their thinking about both the moral idea and the society,it had a big influence at that time in England. My academic papers is trying to study how does the Pre-Raphaelite inherit the painting of the middle ages and make revolutions on it through analyzing the characteristics of both the middle ages and the Brotherhood itself.
