Cultural differences result in the different ways of language expressions. It’s very necessary for translators to master the characteristics of both English and Chinese. The paper intends to illustrate the traits of the two languages in their vocabulary, sentence structure and discourse structure, trying to clarify their linguistic characteristics. In the course of translating the source text The Immersion Experiments in Review by American scholar-Fred Genesee, I focused on the linguistic differences between the source language and target language. In order that the source text retains its own target language’s characteristics, I have made use of some English-Chinese translation strategies, such as ellipsis, word class conversion, word order adjustment, following the original syntactic order, reinventing sentence structures and division.
