Chinese Impressionistic portraits are the accumulation of Chinese traditionalculture and have a long history. It begins in the Southern Song Dynasty. ChineseImpressionistic portrait conveys the aesthetic ideal and vivid ideas through the bold ofstroke-minus and Pomo and focuses on the integration of inner world and painting.Only the inspiration in mind and skillful technique can express the charm.Impressionistic portraits by Liang Kai and Li Shinan based on the implications ofwords, mental imagery and vividness, exploring their continuity andcommonality—vividness via mental imagery, which means that with the help ofskillful words techniques and following one’s inner image a painter, after formingmental imagery, may convey his air and expression with several strokes. This paperprovides theoretical guidance for vividness of Impressionistic portraits and offersnutrition to resurge the Chinese Dream of Impressionistic portraits.Impressionistic portraits seem to be extremely compendious and expressive, butextremely hard to exercise. Without creation and accomplished skills, forming innerimages turns out to be in vain. With the growing development of economy, theacceleration of time, and increasing social pressure, the exquisite and fussy paintingstyle no wonder drives audience anxious, brings visual exhaustion, and fails to meettheir aesthetic demands. This status quo contributes to Impressionistic portraitsreturning to the boom of that in the Southern Song Dynasty and helps to realize itsresurgence.
