A Study On The Relationship Between Working Memory Capacity And Reading Ability Of Naxi And Han Minority Pupils

Working memory refers to the temporary storage and processing of informationin performing cognitive tasks in the process of the limited capacity of the cognitivesystem.Reading ability is the reader through the use of the existing knowledge andexperience, to effectively understand symbols to express the meaning, the successfulcompletion of the task of reading the psychological characteristics and psychologicalconditions.In recent years, the relationship between working memory and readingcomprehension has become one of the hot topics in the field of cognitive psychology,Existing research results show:Primary school grade differences exist, thedevelopment level of working memory and reading ability,Working memory capacitypupils could predict higher on reading ability.Chinese is the second language of Naxichildren,their reading ability development quickly after they accept the Chineseeducation,As Chinese is the second language learners,Naxi primary school studentsand Han students in comparison,Would have more difficulties in the development ofworking memory and reading ability,This is the starting point of the research topics.Inthis study, the Naxi students as study objects,Using working memory listening spanand operation span task，And the domestic scholars compiled "questionnaire ofstudents reading ability test", to measure and analyze the Naxi pupils workingmemory and reading ability, the development trend of grade, differences between thestudents of Han nationality,And on the basis of the test to discussed the relationshipbetween working memory capacity and reading ability of Naxi pupils and Han pupilsThis research includes three parts:Study1investigated the grade difference ofworking memory operation span,working memory Chinese span and workingmemory Naxi span of grade one,three and fifth Naxi pipuls.and comper thedifference of the three tasks,And the Naxi and Han pupils in three span tasks on theethnic differences;Study2examined differences in Grade one, three, the fifth gradethe Naxi students reading ability, the ethnic difference of reading ability of Naxipipuls and Han pupils.Study3examines the relationship between working memorycapacity and reading ability of Naxi pupils and Han pipuls.The results showed: 1.The main effect of grade of working memory capacity significantly Naxipupils,The main effect of working memory task type significantly,Interaction betweenworking memory span task type and grade is significant.2.The results showed that after the multiple comparison:working memorycapacity of the Naxi pupils increased with grade, the difference between two adjacentgrades significantly; the different of working memory Naxi span and workingmemory operation span is significant in Naxi pipulst;he different of working memoryNaxi span and working memory Chinese span is significant in Naxi pipuls,but there isno different between working memory operation span and working memory Chinesespan.3.The ethnic differences of working memory Chinese span between Naxi pipulsand Han pipuls is significant The ethnic differences of working memory operationspan between Naxi pipuls and Han pipuls is not significant.4.Grade differences in the development of reading ability of Naxi pupilssignificantly.5.Ethnic differences in Naxi students and Han students in reading abilitysignificantly.6.The working memory operation span, working memory Chinese span,workingmemory Naxi span of Naxi pipuls is significantly relate to their reading ability.Theworking memory operation span, working memory Chinese span,working memoryNaxi span of Han pipuls is significantly relate to their reading ability.Regressionanalysis showed:The working memory operation span, working memory Chinesespan,working memory Naxi span of Naxi pipuls were the significant predictors oftheir reading ability level,The working memory operation span, working memoryChinese span,working memory Naxi span of Han pipuls were the significantpredictors of their reading ability level.
