Eudora Welty, a representative writer of American Southern Renaissance in the Twentieth Century, created a chronological saga of self and collective memory in the twentieth century South with women’s sensitive view from present ordinary life in family and the community. The short story is the most famous part of her works, The Golden Apples, which the paper focus on, is the most distinguished collection. Through the way of ’the myths’ Welty write a story about "quest" between the two generations in Morgana. The South where Welty lived, has rich myth and legend, with women as the center. However, the South experienced great changes after the failure of Civil War. The South writers sensed that the South was standing at a crossroads. Welty’s story truthly showed the essence of South writers, one hand, they criticize the drawbacks of the Old South; on the other hand, they defend tradition with the conservatism to boycott the industrialism. As the weakness of patriarchy the quest of the men is futile. One the contrary, the women take the mission of quest the new way to the South. Welty’s conservatism made she advocate gender harmony rather than the complete suppression of men.
