Characters sharing similar patterns and meanings refer to those existing in Chinese and Japanese simultaneously but have approximately same meaning as well as patterns. Lexical teaching, especially the teaching of characters sharing similar patterns and meanings both in China and Japan, is an important part of the whole education.By collecting and summarizing concepts of these special characters as well as comprehensively comparing them, I will make a list of these characters, covering aspects of culture, science, customs, religions and relics. Then, I will divide all these characters into three categories, namely expansion of meaning, associated transfer of meaning and narrowing of meanings. In this part, I will study differences between them in detail by listing out several examples. Through going over previous researches, I find that the more similar patterns of the two characters are to each other, the more confused researches will feel while exploring their meanings. In this case, these experts may make mistakes.Lastly, by analyzing the results of comparisons, the author will figure out the rules of expansion of meaning, associated transfer of meaning and narrowing of meanings and further study their roles in promoting Chinese Teaching for Japanese. Teachers should take positive transfers of the mother tongue into full consideration and attach importance to the role of teaching of characters sharing similar patterns and meanings both in China and Japan in helping native speakers in Japan learn Chinese. Thus, I suggested that teachers should make different teaching plans in accordance with learners’ vocabulary and fluency of Chinese.
