The sarcophagus of pakal king,made in AD 650, was found in the coffin chamber of Temple of the Inscriptions by Alberto Ruz Lhuillier in June,1952.When we compare the image of king before life on the stela and after life on the sarcophagus,we will find that the change of life bring him the transformation of theocratic identity.The representations and reasons of the image change are the focus of this paper.First of all, it is pointed out in this article introduction that mayan art represented by pakal sarcophagus has the social function of recording history and guiding the social life,the religious function of connecting supernatural world and the secular world, the aesthetic function of unique aesthetic features of image system.Then the first chapter and the second chapter respectively view the image on stela before life and the image on sarcophagus after life as their key. The two chapters illustrate the king’s identity from the unity of divine powers of the king to the kingdom of heaven, sitting on the identity change from ancestors of the gods, and reveal that the driving of this shift is maya funeral view and the heaven longing.The third chapter will combine the resurrection of the Corn God fairy tale, to discuss how contemporary rulers will own authority above pakal.The sarcophagus image reflects when the king from this life to the dead king,the image how to present the whole theocratic identity construction.
