This article discusses the influence of working memory (工作记忆) on middle school students’ability of English reading comprehension through a series of three studies. In the 1st study, by using the methods of cluster sampling, there are 140 subjects who come from DATONG middle school in Henan province to participate this study, in order to explore the relationship between working memory and English reading comprehension, grammar acquisition and writing. It turns out:the working memory had significant positive correlation with English reading comprehension, grammar acquisition and writing, especially the working memory has the most predictability on English reading comprehension; based on this, in the 1st experiment, we make the further study on the components of working memory about how to influence English reading comprehension. The result shows that the influence of English reading comprehension various with different component of working memory, verbal working memory and refresh function of central executive system has the most effect on Chinese students’English reading comprehension; in the 2nd experiment, participants with lower working memory and weaker English reading comprehension attend working memory training lasts 20 days (4 weeks) totally, we try to find out whether working memory training can improve the subjects’working memory ability and reading comprehension. The participators considerably improved their performance in the trained working memory task. Additionally, compared to pre-training, the experimental subjects significantly enhanced their reading performance after training, providing further evidence for shared processes between working memory and reading comprehension.
