A Study On The Ambiguity Of Graphic Language

As designers, we should cop with complicated information leisurely and express the meaning of target accurately. Graphic symbols which play an important role in designing are important mediators of passing information. In designing,we found that the meaning of graphic symbols are different in different situations which may lead to a great ambiguity and will have a great influence on our design. Therefore, it is very important to study the polysemy of graphics.This paper sums up the characteristics of graphic polysemy by analyzing the graphical capabilities. First of all, the author make an analysis and discussion on production conditions of graphic polysemy from various angles and summarized the reasons for the generation of the graphics polysemy. Secondly, the author analyzes the reasons of graphics polysemy that is mentionged in the above and summarized the regular pattern of the generation of the graphics polysemy. Finally, affirming effects of graphic ambiguity in graphic design is both advantages and disadvantages and hoping to play a reference to design practice while making some inspiration to the later designer.
