As a speech act, compliment has the effect of expression that no other speech acts can be comparable to in social communication. Studying on each aspect of compliment, this paper is mainly concerned with the pragmatic problems. Through the data analysis, the main research method, this paper focuses on the analysis of the issues related to compliment and it’s response etc.. Compliment is divided into explicit compliment and implicit compliment. Emplicit compliment praises things such as looks, personality of people in a direct and obvious way, while implicit compliment appreciate people indirectly and tactfully through other expressions or with the help of other force.In compliment responses, not only will the flattered make relevant compliment response, but the third party who participate in the session will compliment the hearer,following the compliment people,or turn to compliment the speaker, so as to complete their compliments to others. Not all of the compliments can win the hearer’s favor. If the compliment expression is not proper,it may get the negative response of the hearer. Therefore,some influence factors should be payed attention when complimenting other people,for example,the topics and the education level of both sidea. Similarly, the compliment response also has its influence factors, according to the corpus analysis, this paper mainly relates to the social status, the factors of restricting the compliment response patterns.In addition, this paper also analyzes the compliments of various social function,in oader to give a more thorough and further understanding of compliment, so that people can use the compliment in a more proper way.
