The dance drama Fusion in Harmony is created on the basis of my understanding of the dyad Yin-Yang in Chinese traditional culture. Implicated in everything all under heaven, the philosophical vision Yin-Yang stages an antithetic yet inter-dependent, mutually transformational relationship. By means of bodily motion, mise-en-scene, spatial configuration and employment of symbolic props, this drama puts the abstract conceptual Yin-Yang into a concrete and material stage representation. Based on my undertaking of the notion of Yin and Yang, this paper analyzes the specific process of this concretization via three perspectives:mobile construction, employment of props, and mise-en-scene, and concludes with a praxis regarding how to represent abstract concepts in a specific stage drama. |
