The art activities in the Tang Dynasty played an extremely important part in theChinese history of culture and art. The culture of dancing art is one of the mostimportant components. People of the Tang Dynasty were fond of dance to music,which can be clearly seen in the Tang poetry. For a long time, the studies on thedancing art in Tang Dynasty focus on palace dance, sacrifice dance and foreign dance.These kinds of dance were mostly seen in the imperial family on grand occasions,with a strong ceremonial sense. There are, however, a small number of researches onentertainment dance to music of the imperial family and aristocrats in private life. Asthe imperial family and aristocrats lived a superior life in the Tang Dynasty, theirpalace hall often served as the place for banquet, visit and communication. Along withthe upper-class communicative activities, there was a great number of entertainingdance performances. This was the primary form of dance the Tang aristocrats watchedfor entertainment. The author aims to make special study on the site, play, dressing,manner, gesture of the entertainment dance to music in the Tang Dynasty and how itwas described in the Tang poetry. in order to make it more straight and real, this paperprovides a large number of archaeological pictures that are deliberately selected withthe aim to present an illustrative effect, reveal the cultural connotation of theentertaining dance performance at private residence in the Tang Dynasty, provide newperspectives for study of Tang dancing form, and expand the contents for the study onthe dancing art in the Tang Dynasty.
