On Qu Qiubai 's Marxist View Of Culture

Qu Qiubai is one of the main leaders of Communist Party of China in the early period, the great Marxist, outstanding proletarian revolutionary, theorist and propagandist, and the founder of our proletarian revolutionary literature. In Qu Qiubai’s splendid but short life, he had made great contribution to the construction of the Marxism theory for Communist Party of China, but also had done a large number of important work for proletarian cultural construction, which had made an indelible contribution to Chinese people’s liberation and communism cause. The subject of the present paper is Qu Qiubai’s cultural viewpoint of Marxist. Firstly, it describes the basic concepts of culture,which made a comprehensive master and understanding of Marxism culture view of classical writers. Then, the author discusses the definition of culture and the criticism of eastern and western cultures from the point of Qu Qiubai. Thirdly, the thesis indicates and analyses the inner logic and logical structure of Qu Qiubai’s cultural viewpoint of Marxist deeply, that is the economy determines the culture, the standard of people, the dialectics of culture and socialist culture. At the same time, the historical limitations of his culture view are pointed out. Lastly, the author comes to the conclusion that Qu Qiubai’s comprehension of the cultural connotation and spiritual essence is from the perspective of social philosophy, especially regards the culture as a kind of material social productive relationship--it is a type of “new society” rather than culture. He expands and deepens the cultural connotation and doesn’t researches it at the level of spiritual concept. He has a whole system comprehension of the culture. In order to construct the socialistic new culture in the future, he surveys and observes the culture from the angle of social philosophy instead of studying the culture simply, which is the core of Qu Qiubai’s cultural viewpoint that we must comprehend and grasp deeply in our study and research, and is the significant contribution to the cultural theoretical construction of Communist Party of China.We get three implications through the study of Qu Qiubai’s cultural viewpoint. The first one is to connect cultural construction with political, economic, social and ecological construction from the inner part and develop them coordinated. The second is to master that the essence of socialist culture is socialist core value system. The last one is that practice is the objective criteria to validate whether the cultural achievement is true or not. Meanwhile, the present paper has absorbed and used senior scholars’ latest achievement and results on Qu Qiubai’s cultural viewpoint at home and abroad as much as possible during the studying and demonstrating process. The author is in an attempt to present logical structure, inner logic and spiritual essence of Qu Qiubai’s cultural viewpoint more comprehensively and objectively.
