Canadian Animation Art Research

Since the establishment of the National Film Board of Canada(NFB), it has been producing over 13000 piece of works and won nearly 5000 animation award all over the world and even more astonishing thing is among that awards there include 12 Oscars trophy. Throughout the history of Canada’s animation, the great effort contributed by the NFB make an outstanding effect and on the other hand it’s a good explanation to tell us why the animation made by Canadian animators can contest with other animators come from western-countries. So in order to research Canada animation is indispensable to research on the development of the NFB of Canada.Following that pattern in this article I will focus on the operation of the NFB and animators’products and their experiences behind their products.This article begin with the research on the early age of Canada animation and in order to show its development, I introduce some pioneers in the history of Canada animation. From chapter 3 to chapter 5 I pay my attention to the establishment of the NFB and research on its daily operation and its development. Because the NFB was established during the World War II, and during that time the products created by the NFB have a special characteristic, which encourage people to unite and against the Axis-countries. After the war,following with the change of government’s propaganda the NFB also make some changes both in their administration and their employees. And during that period because of government’s subsides and relaxed creative atmosphere the development of the NFB is at great path.After the French studio was established in the sixties, on the one hand due to the studio’s policy that all the animators can make whatever they want,gives animators a lots of imaginary to make great products and on the other hand by the great leadership of Rene Jodoin, the French studio make a lot of products focus on the issue of social and culture problems in the French language area of Quebec. And in the chapter seven I discuss with the great efforts contributed by the experimental animators in the NFB and show the procedure of their products. In the final chapter of this paper I will introduce some brilliant female animators and their contest for the gender issue and through the success of several female animators I want to get some hints for my own career.Through analysing the National Film Board of Canada’s management system,training system and their excellent products can help us to know the status of the National Film Board of Canada and their influence on the history of animation.So based on their success I want to get some hints for Chinese animation’s development.
