Xi’an drum music, which is a type of folk wind and percussion ensemble and has been circulated in the Guanzhong region of Shaanxi province for hundreds of years. It was originated in the Sui and Tang dynasties and still keeps a full set of tracks, spectral type, structure and form of play even throughout the long duration of Song, Yuan, Ming and Qing dynasties. Chenghuang temple drum music club is the only existing Dao club of the six century-old clubs in Xi’an drum music. In the middle of the 20 th century, led by the famous musician Mr Yang Yinliu,the Institute of National Music of Central Music College conducted a field visit to Xi’an drum music with Mr Li Shigen from the Art Institute of Shanxi Province. They published an investigation report titled "drum music clubs and bronze clubs in Shanxi", and since then, the xi ’an drum music has attracted much attention in academia. Today, however, after six decades apart, during the 60 years of ups and downs, what changes and developments Xi’an drum music has experienced?This paper focus on the 60-year historical vicissitude of a music club, expects to do a revisit to the former investigation of Mr Yang Yinliu, tries to reveal the 60-year dribs and drabs of a folk music organization and what rise and fall he has experienced. This paper presents the new opportunities and challenges this century-old club will face in the economic fast developing age of 21 st century, and also records the positive and negative influence of the social culture changes to the Chenghuang temple drum music club of from one side.
