A Study On The Culture Of Tibetan

The unique Tibetan culture comes from the experience and wisdom the Tibetans has developed through their daily life. Bsang khri (a smoke tower like ritual architect) is an excellent example of their wisdom. It symbolizes profound spiritual background and represents unique cultural value. It is also the living prove of the development of the local Tibetans’craftsmanship. Bsang khri is more than a mere tool of Tibetans’religious belief, rather than a representation of their spiritual and ritual idea. It mirrors their wisdom. We also find its value from the perspective of cultural heritage, the development of architecture, the esthetic value of the local people and the development of the religious rituals. We view bsang khri as bondage between Tibetan culture and daily life. Therefore, the study of bsang khri could help us realize the universality and individuality of the Tibetan culture.Although bsang khri plays an important role in Tibetans’ daily life, the study of its architecture development, cultural value, symbolism, and its function has never been made. This thesis paper aims at sorting these features base on the general understating of the Tibetan culture by using cultural anthropology viewpoint and adapting other measures such as doing fieldtrips and collecting iconographic materials.This thesis is composed of 5 chapters, which are listed below:The first chapter is the introduction. It states the purpose of this paper, the methodology the author used, and the current academic situation of this topic.The second chapter explains the historical background, of which bsang khri has formed, defines some terms that related to bsang khri, and give out the time when bsang khri appears.The third chapter talks about the several forms of bsang khri and their unique features. These variations are based mainly on geographical locations. The three main regions of Tibetan inhabitations have developed different preferences on bsang khri’s style and location.The fourth chapter digs into the culture value of bsang khri. This value is closly tie to Tibetans’ideology.The fifth chapter analyzes the function of bsang khri. Not only the material of building bsang khri is easy to gain access to, contracting one is also an easy task. Moreover, it also functions in multiple ways.Finally, the author sums up the main purpose of writing this thesis paper and states the fact that this research has a great value. In this time and the day, bsang khri still plays an important role in Tibetans daily life. To study this phenomenon is, therefore, significant.
