The concept of the twin cities film first appeared in the book called “the Shanghai Modern”written by Professor Li.From the beginning of the last century in 1980 s, Hong Kong’s directors are keen to shot many stories about the old Shanghai. For example, “Rouge”, “Yuen Ling-yuk”,“Red Rose and White Rose”,“Everlasting Regret”and so on. All of these movies were filmed by Guan Jinpeng and all of the plots in those movies are related to the old Shanghai. As we all known that Xu Anhua is one of the most famous directors in Hong Kong and she likes to show the old Shanghai as the background in her films. “Love in a Fallen City”, “Eighteen Springs”,“Golden Age”, “Post-modern Life of Aunts”,these movies all described the semblance and rich connotation of the old Shanghai. “in the Mood for Love” is a film directed by Wang Jiawei. In this movie, you can see an unforgettable exhibition of traditional Chinese dress. You can not help but ask, what”s the kinship between the city of Shanghai and Hong Kong? Why do Hong Kong directors hang onto the Oriental Paris. Actually,Shanghai has long been hailed as “the Oriental Paris”.Why does the United States famous scholar Li Oufan names twin cities“battalion flowers”. Since 1997,this concept has become multiple cities space and these topics are worth exploring. This paper mainly focuses on the concept of space and the transformation of Hong Kong film space from twin cities to the multiple cities. The writer is going to study the film of the twin cities and uses the Hong Kong film as a sample to study the twin cities. In this article, the time and space are the main contents. The concept of the two cities is different from Professor Li”s. This paper is divided into four parts to expound the process of the Hong Kong film from the twin cities film space to the multiple cities. The first part is mainly about the reasons for the generation of twin cities film space. This section describes the theoretical connection of twin cities space. The second part focuses on the culture of mixed blood culture in Hong Kong film space. The third part takes the works of the three Hong Kong directors as the research objects. The three Hong Kong directors are trying to restore the old Shanghai style,so we can put these three directors ” works as a case to analyze the concept of the twin cities. The fourth part mainly explains the evolution of Hong Kong film from twin cities to the multiple cities.Through the research, the author found that “twin cities” and the multiple cities of the film space both have full of unique taste of Hong Kong. There’s a good play in this container. Why does the Hong Kong directors love Shanghai very much? Shanghai and Hong Kong are inextricably linked? On this point, Professor Li Oufan’s opinion is quite different from others. He pointed out that Shanghai and Hong Kong shared the same colonial experience, city culture and the sensibility. However, after 90’s of the last century, especially after the return of 1997, HongKong directors have changed the space narrative mode in their films. At this time, the ’twin cities’ concept is not confined to Hong Kong and Shanghai. “Guangdong- Hong Kong” began to become a part of the new twin cities concept. This is a new idea about the concept of “twin cities” and it injects more vitality to the concept. From 1980 s to the late 1990 s,the directors of the Hong Kong have been shooting on the city of Shanghai story. This is because the Hong Kong island is a floating city.Fortunately, the director has been trying to shoot Hong Kong local stories for a long time. From Shanghai to Guangzhou, from Guangzhou to Taiwan even the Chinese consciousness, Hong Kong film directors are constantly aware of the charm of Hong Kong.Hong Kong film directors again and again close to their own city. This paper is based on three Hong Kong directors”films as the main research objects to study the evolution of Hong Kong’s“twin cities film”to the“multiple cities space”.
