The Journey to the West was popular among Uighur readers,and it was translated into Uighur Language in the early 1980 s. There were a large number of Buddhism address terms in the book, implying profound meanings of Buddhism culture. While Uighur Language carried the Islamism culture, thus it was difficult for translators to translate Buddhism address terms into Uighur language due to the huge cultural differences. Hence, the address terms in The Journey to the West were set as the object of the study. In this paper to discuss methods to translate them into Uighur Language and analysis of Cultural Differences approach used in the translation process.This paper consisted of five parts. In Part One, basis of the topic-choice was explained, and the current studying situation of Buddhism address terms and their translation were generalized,also, the research contents and significance were briefly introduced too.In Part Two, on the basis of concept definition of address terms and Buddhism address terms,the Buddhism address terms in The Journey to the West were classified into three groups, they were name address terms,identity address terms, and general address terms. In Part Three, firstly methods of equivalent and non-equivalent Uighur translation of Buddhism address terms in The Journey to the West were induced. Literal translation, literal translation with notes, and free translation were applied in the case of being equivalent, while transliteration, annotated transliteration, both translation and free translation, literal translation, free translation, omission method of translation were used when they were non-equivalent.In Part Four,three counter measures for dealing with differences in religious culture were put forward, “to clear up differences of religious culture before translating”, “to flexibly use translation methods during the process of translation”, “to keep the religious color of the source language after translation”. Part Five was the conclusion part.The author hoped to promote the development of Chinese-Uighur translation by concluding translation methods of Buddhism address terms translation in The Journey to the West, to further improve Chinese-Uighur literary works translation by analyzing several misinterpretations thus to promote the inter transmission of Chinese and Uighur literary works, and to deepen the understandings between people of minority nationalities and Han Chinese people on a translation level by summarizing methods of handling differences of religious culture and counter measures to the differences, thus to promote communication between people of minority nationalities and Han Chinese people in a deep-seated manner.
