The system of Changkya Lama is not only the one of five Lama reincarnation systems of YouNing Monastery, but also one of eight Hotoktu in Beijing; moreover, it is the one of the four Tibetan Buddhist Lamas who were canonized by Qing Dynesty as well, among these Changkya Lama System, the third reincarnation Changkya Rolpa Dorje is the one who has the most social impact and the largest contribution to history. In his whole life, he was the assistant of Yongzheng and Qianlong emperor. He was considered as a significant person who helped Qing Dynasty to govern religious affairs of Mongolia and Tibetan area. In addition to that, he had profound knowledge on Buddhism, and he wrote and translated numerous Buddhism works which was well-known so far.Therefore, this paper based on previous research results, extensive literatures, and first-rate materials both in Tibetan and Chinese to supplement and complete author’s point of view. Furthermore, this thesis intends to shed light on the Changkya Rolpa Dorje’s life, his religious and political contribution, and Buddhist thought through the theoretical basis of religious, historical, cultural and philosophical studies, as well as field work.In order to present the above contents, this thesis is divided into five parts. The first part is about the general introduction of the paper which mainly explains the dissertation reasons, significance of the research, research trend, research method, and innovation of the research as well.The first chapter is the study on Changkya Rolpa Dorje’s life. For this section, the author attempts to investigate the sources of Changkya Lama Reincarnation, historical lineage of Changkya Lama Reincarnation, and the preaching place of Changkya Lama:YouNing Monastery to illustrate the research background. After that, the paper focuses on the political contribution of Changkya Rolpa Dorje as well as his contributions to the development of Tibetan Buddhism in Beijing to refines his political thoughts.Chapter two is the translation works and thought of Changkya Rolpa Dorje. Focus on the many translation work involved in the host, Through the research and analysis of Changkya Rolpa Dorje in the process collected in Tibetan, Han, Manchu, Mongolian, Sanskrit languages translation and proofreading and edited "The same language Rhyme Series" and "orthography-Sage source", "Manchu Mongolian Zephaniah collusion Tibet the curse", Which translation ideology reflected not only improves the accuracy of later in the translation of Buddhist scriptures, more important is in some extent expanded at the time, the Buddhist cultural undertakings.Chapter three demonstrates the Buddhist thoughts of his works. His brilliant and profound Buddhist attainment and achievement of practicing Tantric were explained with full length. The understanding and explanation of depend-connect, emptiness, Madhyamaka and other philosophical thoughts were presented through his Buddhist works.Finally, the conclusion part summarized ideological characters and political and religious contribution of Changkya Rolpa Dorje as a prominent Gelukpa monk of Tibetan Buddhism based on previous three chapters systematically and completely.In sum, Changkya Rolpa Dorje has far-reaching effects on the next generations for his remarkable contribution on politics and religion and the achievements of his profound Buddhist attainments. Consequently, it has academic significance and social significance to study on Changkya Rolpa Dorje, which in turn provides materials for understanding the essence of Gelug doctrine, and political issues of Qing Dynasty. Moreover, the study on Changkya Rolpa Dorje can be a learning model for development of Buddhism and how to holding a correct view of Tibetan Buddhist in social context which help to regulate the discipline of contemporary monks and construct moral civilization.
