| A Thousand Splendid Suns is the second novel of Khaled Hosseini and it is regarded as the tragic history of Afghan women. Hosseini pays more attention to the revelation of the traumatic experiences of Afghan women.Trauma theory, which focuses on the post-traumatic stress disorder and the recovery process has been booming since1990 s. By applying the theory of trauma studies, this thesis attempts to explore the process from trauma to the recovery of Mariam.The thesis attempts to make its cut-in at the cultural trauma and individual trauma in the case of Mariam and reveal the harm she gets from the society and the family. The thesis focuses more on the post-trauma experiences,such as self isolation and community alienation, disintegration between past and present and identity crisis.Then the thesis makes further efforts to explore how Mariam fights against her unfair fate, overcomes her trauma via breaking though herself,reconnecting herself with the community and constructing identity.Mariam is a brave Afghan woman who changes her fate through her own efforts and realizes her value. In Afghanistan, there are still thousands of women who experience unfair fate.In the current society which preaches equality, Afghan women should stand up to fight for their rights and regain freedom. |
