An Analysis Of Chinese Humble Words In The Perspective Of Conceptual Integration

Chinese talk show programs have a feature of entertainment and include a huge of verbal humor. Previous research mainly focuses on the ways and skills of expressing verbal humor, however, less emphasis is put on the dynamic meaning production of verbal humor from a cognitive perspective in Chinese talk shows.In the 1990 s, the linguists Fauconnier and Turner proposed Conceptual Integration Theory and it has become an important research paradigm in cognitive linguistics. Based on Conceptual Integration Theory, this thesis attempts to apply the five integration networks, namely, simplex network, mirror network, single-scope network, double-scope network and multiple network to analyze the construction, mappings and on-line blending of different mantel spaces which explain the dynamic meaning construction of verbal humor in Tonight 80’s Talk Show. Meanwhile, this thesis aims to expound the backstage cognitive operations of people and deepen their understanding of verbal humor as well. To some degree, the thesis not only provides a certain perspective for the study of talk show but also enriches the application of Conceptual Integration Theory.
