German professor Heinz Jurgen Kristahn’s most courses are for public welfare theme International Poster Competitions. He thinks poster is the mirror of public opinions, through design technique to convey inner messages and esthetics, as a media. Transmit the leitmotiv clearly, original creation, good quality of technique, readable in far distance and globe background are the basic requirements. His courses have the features of logicalness and preciseness. Another German professor Klaus Hesse’s course have many different themes. He thinks poster is a 70cm*100cm’s flat surface, and poster design is a process of design grammar composing, as a practice to develop students’ design consciousness. Complex decoration and Minimalism works both appear in his course, some posters even reject significance annotation, expressing inspiration directly. His course has the features of diversity and innovation. This thesis comparing those courses, attempting to find which inherent reason cause two professors’ different teaching styles and different standards than analysising the different design knowledges and concepts they want to convey. If the professor Kristan course is training students’ rational thinking of application design, then Professor Klaus course is training students divergent thinking based design. However, both of them are equally important, and it is the embodiment of the diversity of design teaching.
