With the deepening of globalization, growing of mass communication mediaand transparence of diplomacy, public diplomacy has gained increasing attentionfrom the international community.After China’s reform and opening-up, the country has been striving to beinvolved in the international community, starting international dialogues,participating in international cooperation, and realize its own development. Duringthis process, public diplomacy, an effective and modern diplomatic model, is neededfor other countries to better understand and recognize China. However China beganits public diplomacy late and its relative theories and researches are still to beexplored. With the improvement of China’s comprehensive strength and theextension of its opening up to the outside world, China is now ready to tell a true selfto the world, which will become the foundation of China’s peaceful development. Agrowing number of people are now paying attention to public diplomacy and Chinahas made special efforts in this public diplomatic field: the successful launch ofBeijing2008Olympics and Shanghai2010World Expo, which prove China to becapable and willing to achieve something in the public diplomacy.Thailand is located in Southeast Asia. Since the establishment of diplomaticrelations between Thailand and China, the two countries have maintained friendlyexchanges and broadened the scope of cooperation. It was necessary requirement todevelop bilateral friendly relations and to deepen cooperation between twocountries by strengthening public diplomacy.Based on foreign scholars’ theories and practical researches of public diplomacy,the thesis forms an understanding of public diplomacy under the circumstance ofglobalization and clarify the concept, characteristics, goal and theoretical basis ofpublic diplomacy, analyzing China’s public diplomacy to Thailand and concluding thefeatures of China’ public diplomacy to Thailand. In the third chapter of the thesis, theauthor analyzes the influence factors of China’s public diplomacy to Thailand,concluding the globalization of international community, regional development, the deepening of cultural exchanges of the two countries, development of China’sexternal policies as motivating factors while the populace’s cultivation and thesolidification of China’s diplomatic mechanism as obstructive factors. The fourthchapter of the thesis proposes suggestions for China to improve its public diplomacyto Thailand. |
