Love And Love

The study of Theages was neglected by Chinese scholars, and foreign scholars interpreted the political philosophy of Theages from the perspectives of its relationship with the Clouds, of the Daimonion of Socrates, and of the political education. This thesis interprets the political philosophy of Theages from the perspective of the difference between the love of wisdom and the longings for ruling on the basis of other scholars’studies.The Theages purports to tell readers the followings:The art of political ruling is an art that must be cultivated from political action. Therefore, no one could teach the others the art of political ruling through words or dialectics.The art of political ruling aims at accomplishing great political achievements, however, philosophy merely aims at knowing the knowledge of the Whole. Therefore, the longing for ruling is entirely different from the love of wisdom.The soul dominated by the longings for ruling is in chaos. Philosophy could heal the soul dominated by the longings for ruling through paying close attention to the eternal Being that is higher than political action. Moreover, philosophy could also help the soul dominated by the longings for ruling to distinguish the good ruling from the bad.
