Shi(史)was an important official who plays a very important role in politicalactivities during the Qin and Han Dynasties. This paper aims to research the post ofShi(史)in order to distinguish it’s category, and analyze how to elect someone to beSh(i史)and their, political life and living conditions of Shi(史)at that time by usinghistorical data and referencing previous research. It also makes an objectiveevaluation to the post of Shi(史) in Qin and Han Dynasties.This paper includes fiveparts:The introduction discusses the reasons of selecting topics and gives a briefintroduction to some related concepts. Meanwhile it reviews some academicresearches to point out that the post of Shi(史) in Qin and Han Dynasties is not awell-known topic in academics, and then pick up ways of research.The first chapter is to define the province of Shi (史)in two sections. The firstsection discusses the definition of Shi(史) and some other officials in Pre-Qin toshow the relations among them. The second section gives the definition of Shi(史)and discusses the position setting of Shi (史)in Qin and Han Dynasties.The second chapter is divided into two sections. The first section discusses theselection ways of Shi(史), while the second section discusses the conditions andlimiting factors on selection of the post of Shi(史) as well as some legal rules andlimitations which Shi(史) should obey.The third chapter aims to study the political life, economic income and social lifeof Shi(史) in Qin and Han Dynasties. Among them, the political life of Shi(史)involves the duty of Shi(史), and the economic income is based on the contents ofgovernment salary in Qin and Han Dynasties, but the social life of Sh(i史) relates toboth physical and spiritual life of Shi(史).The last part is the conclusion which reveals the social position and effect of Shi(史). It also evaluates the post of Shi(史).
