The Anti-Japanese War is the time when the PLA’s signal corps gained great experience and development. During this time the signal corps showed its amazing power of unity and cooperation by bearing hardships without complaint, accomplished the communications support mission with high quality, and made a great contribution to the victory of the Anti-Japanese War and the liberation of the Chinese nation.This thesis, based on the study of the history of the PLA’s signal corps’ construction during the Anti-Japanese War, unfolds its exposition by focusing on the background, experience, basic situation, historical value and realistic inspiration of the signal corps’ construction. The chapters are logically coherent in the style of citing the classics and the latest academic achievements, aiming to study systematically and integrally the construction of the signal corps in the war, enrich and improve the theoretical achievements of the signal corps in its history, and provide reference for its current construction as well. The thesis consists of four parts as follow:In the first part, the author analyzes the necessity and feasibility of the construction of the PLA’s signal corps during the Anti-Japanese War in view of the historical background. During the war, factors such as operational situation, the balance of forces between the enemy and ourselves, mode and zone of operations made the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and the Central Military Commission realize the urgency of ensuring effective communications in combat. And owing to the Kuomintang-Communist cooperation and the aid from the former Soviet Union, the US and the UK, better communications of the PLA’s signal corps were made possible.The second part outlines the practical course of the PLA’s signal corps’ construction in the Anti-Japanese War. Within the eight years of the war. the signal corps went through three steps of the beginning, the development and the maturity, during which not only adhered to the Party’s line, doctrine and policy with solid political belief, upright thought, and loyalty to the revolutionary enterprise throughout, but also successfully completed the important missions assigned by the Central Committee and the Central Military Commission, achieved magnificent success in the historical process of the signal corps’ construction.The basic situation of the PLA’s signal corps’ construction during the Anti-Japanese War is primarily discussed in the third part, including the organizational system of the PLA’s military communications construction, the preparation for the communications equipment of the signal corps, and effective measures to promote the signal corps construction.The fourth part is the analysis and evaluation of the enhancement of the PLA’s signal corps’ construction during the Anti-Japanese War, focusing on the value of the signal corps in the war from the theoretical and practical perspectives. By summarizing the theoretical significance and practical value, the author offers a better understanding of the PLA’s signal corps’ construction during the war, and provides important references for the current and future military construction as well.
