Passive optical network is always considered light access a prospect of technology. Modern communications technology toward digital, broadband amination, intelligent and fast pace and personalized the direction of development, and the specific application in transportation industry, we need to build a safe, reliable, real-time, convenient traffic information transmission management system. This needs high bandwidth, stable and secure communications network to support.Based on the introduction of the highway network the composition and function structure, based highway network characteristics, puts forward the passive optical network application in highway network of research direction.Through discussing the traditional highway communication application needs, structure and the information transfer mode, given the highway network frame asher。According to the present existing equipment manufacturers in realizing Ethernet passive optical network and gigabytes passive optical network can be done in a system in the condition, the author puts forward the mixed networking with Ethernet passive optical network as the main access technology, constructing highway communication network, and points out, Ethernet passive optical network in the replacement of a remote device and bureau may, after the board smooth transition to gigabytes passive optical network. On this basis, with an example, discusses the way to passive optical network construction of highway communication network structure and connection modes, and summarizes the using passive optical network construction of highway network advantage lies.
