Research On Using Chaotic And Fractal Graphics In Commodity Design

In the early 1970s, B.B.Mandelbrot with use of computer programming technology constructed the Mandelbrot set, which is named after Mandelbrot himself and created the fractal theory, which present a new geometric language to describe the nature. With the rapid development of the computer science and the technology of the computer image processing, the researches of computer visualization of various dynamical systems were developed. Studies on chaotic attractors and various fractal graphics have attracted the attentions of researchers in different fields such as mathematics, computer science and art design. It is impossibility to lack the process of decorating the the appearance of the product in the product design. The geometric pattern is the most widely used patern form in the traditional and modern decorative designs. With the historical progress, more and more new forms of geometric patterns in the non-Euclidean geometry are appeared, where the chaotic and fractal graphics are not only newfangled, but also inspire people to apply them.In this thesis, the methods of analyzing academic literature andexperimenting wer used. the categories, application manners and features of decorative graphics in product design were analyzed by taking the decorative graphics as the clew. The aesthetic features and decorating application of chaotic and fractal graphics were discussed.The main investigation results in the thesis are as follows:1. The visual beauty of the art graphic, which is generated by computer simulation, was analyzed by leanning the relevant basic concepts of chaos and fractal.2. The ameliorationion impact of decorative graphic on enhancing the product's aesthetic value was investigated by research of decorative graphics in the field of art design.3. The decorative application of traditional geometric graphics on commodity designs was analyzed.4. Aesthetic features of chaotic and fractal graphics, such as rhythm, cadence and self-similar were discussed. The patterns with chatic and fractal idears, used in decorative design of products were discussed.5. Product designs of the umbrellas, the desk lamp and the storage box are worked out with the conceptions and patterns of chaos and fractal by using design software, such as Adobe Photoshop CS4,CorelDRAW and 3DMAX. Furthermore, A fine sample of the desk lamp, with functions of a 3-level dimmer and a fragrant fumigant, has been done.
