In this paper, an onboard system in excavator remote monitoring technology has been studied, particularly focused on key technologies, design and implementation of the onboard system. The article detailed the onboard system, including the following:(1) Intronduction. The concept, background and significance of excavator remote monitoring technology are presented. And the research of remote monitoring technology in kinds of areas, especially in excavator, is overviewed. Based on this, lack of the existing excavator remote monitoring onboard system in wireless data transmission, reliability and power management technology is pointed out, thus the search of onbard system is necessary.(2) SectionⅡresearchs on the key technologies of onboard system. About data acquisiton, the selection, acquision meaning and method of target working parameters are researched. About wireless data transmission, the mixed data transmission including GPRS and SMS is designed, and the combined transmission strategy including real-time and buffering data transmission is developed. About reliability, the reliability design of hardware and software is developed. About power management, an effective power management solution is designed.(3) SectionⅢcompletes the overall design of onboard system. Based on the model of remote monitoring system functions, the functional requirements of onboard system are analyzed, the use case diagram of onboard system to monitoring center is designed and detailed, and the architecture and overall structure are designed.(4) SectionⅣcompletes the hardware design of onboard system. ARM7-LPC2378 is chosed as the MCU of onboard system. The hardware design of every functional module is completed to achieve the function of the corresponding module.(5) SectionⅤcompletes the software design of onboard system. TheμC/OS-Ⅱis chosed as the operating system of onboard system, and the porting work of theμC/OS-Ⅱis completed. The driver design of every functional module is detailed. The overall design and detailed design of system tasks are completed.(6) SectionⅥcompletes the test and verification of onboard system. According to the test of data acquisition, data transmission, system reliability and system power management, the resullts of onboard system design meeting the design objectives is verified.
