As a part of the importance of modern communication systems, multi-band planar micro-strip antenna technology and broadband, ultra wideband methods have been more and more concern and attention, and because of modern communications systems, especially UWB systems, occupy a wide bands usually, interfere other equipment in this band. Therefore, higher requirements and compatibility is requested among systems. A multi-band planar antenna and a ultra-wideband antenna with stop-band characteristics is designed theoretically and experimentally in this paper.The paper is divided into two parts. The first part briefly describes the development of planar micro-strip antennas, as the history and current situation; and the basics theory of the micros-trip antenna is analyzed in detail, including:radiation theory, methods and analysis of feed, design methods of monopole UWB antenna and focus on the finite element method and finite element method based electromagnetic simulation software. The second part is the antenna design, including a tri-band of the small plane antenna, which can cover Bluetooth, WiMAX and WLAN band and two ultra-wideband antennas with stop-band characteristics, which can cover 2.5 GHz-13 GHz. Through physical measurements show that the antenna designed has a good VSWR characteristics and stable radiation pattern, has some practical value.
